The Named Data Networking project, which is working on an Internet architecture designed to better handle data and application access in an increasingly mobile world, is hosting its second annual community meeting and its first hackathon next month at the UCLA campus.

The NDN Community Meeting (NDNComm 2015) and NDN Hackathon will be held on Sept. 28-29 and Sept. 26-27, respectively. Registration for the meeting is open athttp://www.caida.org/workshops/ndn/1509/and those interested in taking part in the hackathon should contactndncomm2015-hackathon@named-data.net. Registration for the meeting, the full agenda for which will be disclosed this month, closes on Aug. 15.

The workshop will include an opportunity to exchange research experience, discuss the state of NDN and identify remaining issues. You can come up to speed on NDN, too, by reading the most recent annual report, which recounts activities through April.

As documented in the most recent NDN newsletter, there continues to be a steady stream of published research on the topic, including four papers (on issues ranging from APIs to security to videoconferencing) that have been accepted by the 2nd ACM Conference on Information-Centric Networking to be held Sep 30 – Oct 2 in San Francisco.

Members of the NDN Consortium include a collection of universities and businesses, with network vendors such as Cisco, Intel and Juniper being among them. The effort has also been backed by millions in funding from the National Science Foundation.
